RIP

Sorry for the no knitting posts lately...I've been ill with the stomach flu.
I'm sad to say that the Hot Rod community lost a very well known personality. Boyd Coddington, most well known for his reality show "American HotRod" passed away the other day. While I was not a huge fan of his particular style you have to respect the man for his talents and his contributions over the years. He was not a young man but 63 is still a young age to go. Our thoughts go out to his family. There were some very nice wishes posted on the HAMB and no jokes in poor taste....

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. TV reality show host and car-building legend Boyd Coddington, died at age 63, according to media reports Thursday.

The news was released by his La Habra-based company, which said that Coddington died at Whittier's Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in the morning on Wednesday.

Born in Rupert, Idaho, in 1944, Coddington was a farm boy who devoured auto magazines and dreamed of creating his own custom cars.

Coddington started to build cars in his home garage when he was a 13-year-old. His first big hit was a streamlined makeover of a 1933 Coupe that won the Al Slonaker Award, one of the most prestigious prizes in hot rodding.

With his standard of workmanship and creativity approved, he won the "America's Most Beautiful Roadster" award seven times and twice won the Daimler-Chrysler Design Excellence Award.

Coddington created the TV reality show "American Hot Rod" which aired on the Discovery Channel from 2004 to 2007 and introduced the West Coast hot rod guru to the whole nation.

The New York Times has called Coddington "indisputably the best-known and arguably the most influential professional builder in the field."

Coddington is survived by his wife, Jo; three sons, Boyd Jr., Chris and Greg, and grandchildren.

Craft mafia

Last Tuesday I put on my Boozing shoes and headedout to the Bigfoot Lodge in Beautiful Atwater Village CA to attend the L.A Craft Mafia's monthly meet and greet. I talked the World Famous "K" into attending with me because "K" is not afraid to fly her geek flag.

There she is holding her "tree wire"
And here are some trees...mines on the left with all the curl q's

For the record we were some of the only ones that brought our own pliers because we were the ones that came prepared for class!
Anyways it was great fun and I can't wait till the next one.

There comes a time

When you have to just admit that the expired half and half has gone sour and stop trying to convince yourself that it smells just fine and it's totally safe to add to your coffee today.

Anyways check out what I made

Photobucket
Ok it may looks silly but it's a plastic bag dispenser and everyone LOVES it...seriously...AM wants one in gingham and I made one for the DSB's mom
Photobucket
and today
if I have time I'm making one for his sister.
I also bought the fabric for the Pillow case I'm making in Sewing class tonight. How cool is this stuff?
Photobucket
The DSB thinks it awesome. I may be making the curtains for the kitchen out of it.
By the way...that fabric is on sale at Quilters Emporium in Woodland Hills
www.quiltersemporium.com
Actually all the re-production fabric is on sale so i scored.

How to Grow the Fuck up

I thought this was funny and true...leave it to Bill gates to know everything.

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a high school about 11 things they did not, and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1 : Life is not fair... get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self esteem. The world expects you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school, and you won't be a vice-president with a company car until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping... they called it opportunity.
(Seriously...call it a character building experience. My college roommate came from a very afluent well to do old money family and you know what his first jobs was? Working at Mc.Donalds.)

Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault. So don't whine about your mistakes... learn from them.

Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to work.
(really? You mean friends is not an accurate representation of real life...actaully no reality tv. is an accurate representation of real life...except maybe for COPS.)

Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll be working for one someday. (very good advice indeed.)
-Bill Gates

Everyone loves a redhead

Who is your inner bombshell?

WAAAAAHH!! You're inner Bombshell is the zany Lucille Ball! You like making people laugh, but also know how to turn on the glamour when the time is right. To most guys you're the perfect all-around gal. But sometimes you get into trouble and have a heckuva time talking your way out of it. You may be accident-prone on the outside, but your a first class business woman on the inside. A pioneer, so to say. Lucy can still be seen hamming it up on her most famous television series "I Love Lucy".

You can take the girl out of the south, or A Sure Sign Spring is about to get Sprung!

Do you know what this is?
Photobucket

How bout now?
Photobucket

Ok Last One!
Photobucket
That right there is somthing I haven't had since I left Savannah GA about 5 years ago. That is a red necky treat that come spring you can find at every grocery store and gas station worth it's salt, or legumes.....yes them there is BOILED PEANUTS! Those luxurious lovely legumes that make my heart sing and my taste buds scream "YES YES YES" ala When Harry Met Sally. They are soooo good. I stumbled across raw peanuts at the store which blew my mind because unless you live in an area where you would tell people the county you live in instead of the city, you can't get RAW GREEN PEANUTS EVER! When I lived in GA they were at every Publix, Kroger and Piggly Wiggly during the spring and summer months and the boiled version were at every gas station. I mastered the art of eating these while driving.
Photobucket
As you can see they were a hit!
Also we have some sewing to show off
Photobucket
Here's my first attempt at super basic quilting...I have a ways to go but hey I'm having fun and I'm almost getting the hang of sewing in a straight line.

Now for Hat Wars...
I've been taken out! Erica from Texas struck me down with this!
Photobucket
It's actaully kinda cute. I didn't knit this but it turned out well...boy is it a tight knit though...the designer must be the tightest knitter in the world to get guage on 8's with this pattern. I am not sure about the designs placement of the decreases but all in all a tricky fun little pattern. I wish I had photos of my unfinished hat but it's already been sent off.
So yes I'm dead at Hat Attack.
Photobucket
As you can see I'm not thrilled!!!!
Boy that's an Ugly Ass Photo of me!

Pay It Forward

I got this from Daisydo.com
So, I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I'll contact you via e-mail and get your address and I'll hopefully send out the little gift within a few weeks! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

The first three people who leave a comment saying they want to play are in, no matter who you are or where you come from!

So come on! Let’s make this world a better place!

Super Crafty Update....

Coming probably tomorrow...but I do have LOADS of stuff to update! I knitted...I sewed...I went to a quilt store and almost got into a wreck with a guy who was behind me in the right lane and wanted to turn RIGHT onto a side street but decided the best way to do that was to go around me and cut me off again while slamming on his brakes so he won't miss the said turn...he got the bird...smooth move jackass. I made carnitas tacos for dinner in the slow cooker...which makes me think the first BBQ of the year will be a carnitas, asada and chicken bbq to celebrate the DSB FINALLY finishing the 31...the door is in the computer roon right behind me and...well trust me the color is freakin' FLY! Yeah Baby!
I totally will have all kinds of updates...I need to charge my camera...I totally missed a kodak moment at the 7-11. Somebody had thrown away a big Casio Keyboard in the trash can in front of the 7-11, it was sticking out at least a foot and a half. Makes me wonder why you'd throw a Casio Keyboard in a teeny 7-11 trash can instead of perhaps the big dumpster on the side of the building. Perhaps the former owner was offended by a sour note the Casio played and just couldn't have the Casio in his sight anymore...
Then again who walks around with a Big Ass Casio freakin' Keyboard, I mean, is it to look cool like all those douche bags you knew in college that carried their guitars around all the time to get chicks? Who looks good hauling around a big ass Casio anyways?
Man I need to charge my camera.

Yes I have a sleep disorder that causes me to sleep walk on occassion...It's been pretty quiet lately though but it was only a matter of time...The DSB was annoyed for a second till he realised I was sleep walking...he's cool like that and loves me even though I'm a somnambulist werido.

Took the wind right outta my sale

I could be finishing my hat for hat attack but I got an e-mail yesterday from my assasin that my hat was in the mail on it's way to me and well it's kinda taken the wind out of my sales....I could be practicing my sewing of cleaning the kitchen or drinking beer with the knitting time it would take to finishh the hat but what's the point becaus my hat will be here tomorrow and I'll be dead then it'll be a huge fiasco if I've already sent my hat off. I would have finished my hat but Saturday was the annual Chinese New Year party in Long Beach that I had been looking forward too since well Last Year then we had to go to the Valley for another Birthday and Sunday we had ANOTHER BIRTHDAY so i didn't get any real needle time till last night...almost finished...I'm over it. Next time the do hat attack they should start it on a week day so that everyone will take longer instead of just knitting one day solid then it would last longer...oh well...it's been fun
Oh well.
On the craft front I may be making little pin cushions to practice my sewing. If I make enough decent ones I may give them away on here if anyone would want them....I'd hate to be wasteful

Productive hangover time

Ugh. I'm HUNG OVER!
Remember that Epic Super Bowl Party I was attending.....

Photobucket
Yes those there are doctor pepper shots....that was about 15 min after we arrived.

It was fun....we played a game called beer pong....the DSB and Nick won
Photobucket
You know you're totally jealous of that prize.
Anyways I'm laying low today....nursing a horrible hang over and finally uploading some photos....

First some knitting content.
Photobucket

I've been meaning to post this photo of me knitting at the DMV for a while but I'm lazy and photobucket takes a long time to upload so I put it off. I was totally prepared for a long wait since I had no appointment but seriously I maybe got to knit like 4 rows when they called my number. I mean the one time I was actaully looking forward to a long wait.

Anyways....It's Grand National Roadster Show time!
Photobucket
Early AM waiting in line to get in...I have so many more photos but as I said Photobucket takes FOR FREAKIN EVER so I only uploaded a few choice shots

Photobucket
This had my vote for "Most Beautiful Roadster" but of course the judges were drunk or high and chose some stupid gold turd instead.
Photobucket

Photobucket
This was a cool pickup
Photobucket
Ok that shade of green was like porn to me....oh yeah

And I got a kick out of this little truck....34 perhaps?

Quick little check in

I'm about to get ready to go to the 1 hour spin class....there are knitting updates to be posted. There are car updates and life updates....there just aren't decent photos to be posted yet so there....the DSB's scarf is coming along nicely and you'll have to just take my word for it. It's supposed to rain Sunday which sucks because we're going to an epic party at the DSB's buddies house and the party is usually half outside and thats usually where the bar is and well I don't really dig football and I'm not allowed to knit at this party (I tried to take knitting to the party last year and was told NO! I was also the DD so I didn't drink and was bored stiff till because I don;t understand football) so pretty much I was planning on playing bartender and knocking back lemon drop shots with the rest of the drunks. I have to make sure the DSB doesn't decide to take the day off work Monday because that's the day Angelica the Super Housekeeper comes to clean (early V-D Surprise for the DSB) and I want it to be a surprise!
Anyways I'm off to drink coffee then head down to the Spin studio to burn off hopefully 500 calories in anticipation of scarfing down mini bagel pizzas and kamakazi's on sunday.
