These guys and gals serioulsy rocked it. I was outside at Safari Sams waiting for Nu-Tra to go on and I went inside to get a beer and was totally captivated by them. If you ever get the chance I reccomend seeing them.

Always a good show...do you like DEVO...then you'll LOVE Nu-Tra.

Ok so we totally scored on these tickets thanks to a good friend AM...she hooked it up with backstage passes...I got my picture taken with the Drummer....he has big hair. We also ran into a friend backstage and we chatted and drank the free beer till they turned the heat off and we were forced to leave. Brian Setzer's x-mas show is such a good time...if you have the means...GO!

I'm off to order our traditional X-Mas eve pizza and bake a Blueberry and a Sweet Potato pie. For all ya'll that have never had Sweet Potato pie believe me it's nummy...it's like a more refined version of Pumpkin Pie, requires a bit more work (You have to bake the sweet potatos first then let them cool) but it's soo good and different enough to be interesting but familiar enough that the picky eaters wil try it.....I really need to invest in actaull pie plates instead of the cheapo disposeable ones I get at How's....presentation dammitt.

I also have started a new knitting under the gun project...project Pinwheel Bankie for Star's Baby Shower...I have about 18 days to finish it before her baby shower....cast on last night...have about 11 pattern repeats but ran out of room on the DPS and have yet to fins a size 8 circ to put it on...seems like a quickish knit and it fairly mindless provided you pay minimal attention on the increase rounds. It's pretty yarn from the stash...love me a good stash buster!

The view from my kitchen window

See that? That's a 34 ford Pickup truck....that is what I was looking for before I purchased the way swanky 36...god I'm jealous. Actually that is in my driveway for the moment. Our friends from Switzerland bought it on their recent trip here and actaully as I was typing this they came by to pick it up and drive it to Long Beach to ship it home....as much as I hate to see this car leave the country I am happy it is going to a good home where it will be appreciated.

Now ACTUAL KNITTING CONTENT!

I finished washed and blocked Nick's birthday scarf....I used about 2 and a half skeins of Beracco Ultra Alpaca in rust and brown on size 5 addi turbos. It took perhaps 7 evenings of knitting plus about 2 hours of weaving in the BAZILLION ends that a striped scarf has plus I wanted to do a good job since Nick is pretty much our dearest friend in Los Angeles. I hope he likes it. I used Soak in the fragrance A Scent to celebrate which smells like roses (I know, how macho)....since I'm not gonna see Nick till Sunday for Burlesque at the Bordello I think I'll try and maybe make a matching cap from the leftover yarn.

Also I remember talking about the truck cookies but I just found actual photos of the truck cookies.

Crack is Wack

It's not even the crack of dawn and I'm up. We're up early hoping to beat the rain. Today is the Mooneyes x-mas party car show and I'm taking the Rambler down. Hopefully the rain won't be too bad....were all gonna get colds today.

Scarves need people and people need scarves

Our dear friend Nick is sick. Last Saturday was the Clubs toy drive...Nick showed up at our house and asked to borrow a scarf since the event was outside. I told him I didnt have a scarf for him...he said "You can't tell me you don't have at least a dozen scarves you knit lying around?" He was right...then I explained all of them were on the 'girlie" end of the spectrum ie. girlie pinks and multicolor thick thin hand spun. He said he was sure he could find somthing manly...well the closest thing was a neon green and black FUN FUR (knit before I realised I hate fun fur but I love lime green and black)...he wore it for exactly one hour till he was teased to the point of stashing it in the truck and spen the rest of the evening hogging the lone space heater which my dear friend AM pointed out was very rude and inconsiderate but he's cute so he can get away with it. It was really cold and now Nick is sick...
Nick also has a birthday coming up on the 15th. He requested we take him for Sushi like we did last year and I've decided to do somthing special for him....I'm going to knit him a scarf. I discussed it with the DSB and we decided that a basic 2x2 rib would work best....I had a cool manly waffle pattern but it was shot down. Nick knows he's getting somthing hand knit cause I have been calling him asking what colors he likes...he's useless in this area because for some reason he thinks in terms of car paint color combos.

Anyways The DSB had an errand to run near the LYS so he dropped me there so I could try and pick ot something for Nick. Somthing manly but not too boring...I wanted to use this Blue Sky Alpaca dk weight stuff but they only had two skeins in the color I liked and I wanted to make this scarf wide and long so i ditched that one.

Then I found this stuff that Berroco makes called Ultra Alpaca...now I've never really been a fan of the Berroco yarns but this stuff really fit the bill. I chose 2 colors...brown and a rust color that make a fairly manly vintagey looking scarf...I've knitted a little under a foot on size 6 needles....I may be pushing it with the needle size but I wanted it to drape and go a bit quicker...it's working out but I would not go up to a 7. I can't find my camera but I'll take photos when we give it to him then we'll drink sake and eat raw marine life like there's no tomorrow.
